There are various factors which not only attract visitors but make them follow a site. These factors are classified in two ways:
1. Pre-Publishing and
2. Post-Publishing.
Pre-Publishing of a site contains various factors to work on before a site goes online. These factors play a vital role in the success of a site. Thus, the factors involve Domain name of the site, Content, Keyword Research, Number of Pages and their look, Design of the pages, etc.
Domain names: The domain name should be chosen in such a manner that it is easy to spell and type with minimum characters, and more importantly, it should reflect the content of the site. That?s the reason why, domain names are bided and brought much before one plans for building the site. So, choose the domain name precisely and leave the rest on the content of the site.
Content: Normally, people are on the internet in search of some information or answers to queries they have in their mind. And when they get these answers, they not only visit the site again and again, but also refer it to others. So, center point to attract visitors to any site is the content of that site. A site should have relevant content, that is short and sweet, and that not only explains the topic of concern, but also describes it completely in few words.
Keyword Research: (SEO part) When your subject and content is ready, then explore and browse the site that is similar to your site. Search for the keywords, the top rated site have targeted for, check the keywords competition using various keyword tools (ref., Google keyword suggestion tool). This will not only give an idea of the keywords ranking, but also gives statistics of how many times the keyword is searched locally as well as globally. One can make a list of 20-25 keywords, pick the best or top 5 keywords out of this list, and then, use it wisely in various places on the site, such as in the content, title, alt tags of various media, etc. Keep in mind, do not use too much of it as it may turn into spam.
Number of Pages: Decide the number of pages necessary for the site, and write the content accordingly. Homepage, Contact Us, About Us, etc. are necessary, as it shows the site is relevant and well-maintained. Also pages like Gallery and Testimonial pages are added benefits. Include the site map as one of the page, to help visitors navigate the site and get easily indexed in various search engines.
Design: Make sure the site is simple and easily navigable, else visitors will disappear immediately. Design the landing page to make it eye-catchy, especially your home page should be made as a remarkable landing page. Do not use heavy flash images, as it takes time to load and thus, repels visitors. Use background color and font color slightly eye smoothie.
Once this is done you can publish your site. The next section is to promote the site.
In Post-Publishing (SEO: Off-Page), there are two types of traffic known that come to the site ? Non Organic Traffic and Organic traffic.
Non-Organic Traffic can be easily achieved by buying of links to back link the site, publish classified ads on various ad sites, and by running Google ad words for the site. The Non-Organic way brings the visitors to the site, but many a times the visitors are temporary and statistics decrease as soon as the ad campaigns are discontinued.
Organic Traffic refers to the visitors that come to the site in search for answers to their queries via unpaid links from various referring sites or directly through Search engines, directories, social websites, etc. One can find how the content of the site is reviewed and number of other sites back link to it, as one of the dependable site. The term ?organic traffic? is often used to refer to all traffic that is not directly paid for (as opposed to PPC, CPM, CPA, or other pay schemes). The website will receive organic traffic, depending upon the quality of content it contains in the site as viewed by various search engines and other internet experts. The organic traffic is considered as the most valuable form, as it is free and visitors arrive naturally through self-interest on the subject of the site. As organic traffic is natural, it takes time to build a countable number, but it draws longterm visitors for the site.
Some companies offer advertising schemes that, in return for increased web traffic (visitors), pay for screen space on the site. Sites also often aim to increase their web traffic through inclusion on search engine and through Search engine optimization.
