It will be a busy, busy week for volunteering and I want to keep up with my health/physical fitness related activities.

Volunteer:
- This week we have a big book sale on Saturday as a Friends of the Library fundraiser.? I will spend all day Saturday and 3 half days on this as well as attend an evening meeting.

Work:
- Follow up again with clients in current project

Health/Fitness:
- Keep up with daily physical therapy exercises
- Physical therapy session on Tuesday
- Walk dog daily
- Pilates session on Wednesday

Home Chores:
- Do some yard work
- Clean paperwork off of desk and remove old files from file cabinet

Financial:
- Get a second bid on the yard work we can't do.?

A Catholic university in eastern Ohio is ending health-insurance coverage for students in
response to a much-debated federal mandate.

Ohio Dominican and Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Catholic schools in central Ohio, already
don?t provide health insurance for students, spokeswomen at the colleges said on Wednesday.

Catholic-affiliated institutions across the country are challenging a mandate in the federal
health-care law that requires insurance plans to provide coverage for contraception ? including
birth-control pills, sterilization and the so-called morning-after pill, which many conservatives
view as an abortion-inducing drug.

Franciscan University in Steubenville announced last month that, because of the new rule, it no
longer will offer a student health-insurance plan, beginning in the fall. The skyrocketing cost of
the plan, also because of mandates, was another factor, spokesman Tom Sofio said yesterday. About
200 of the school?s 2,500 students are enrolled in the voluntary plan.

Whether church institutions will stop providing health-insurance coverage in opposition to the
mandate has become a common topic in Catholic circles, said John C. Green, the director of the
University of Akron?s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.

?This is the first example I have heard of,? he said, referring to Franciscan University. ?It?s
possible this could become very widespread if the current mandate stands.?

Sofio said Franciscan?s health-insurance plan for employees will continue, but it will face the
same situation in August 2013, when the mandate goes into effect unless challenges are
successful.

At Ohio Dominican, officials said employee-insurance plans already include coverage for
contraceptives. The school says state law requires insurance companies to provide basic health
services, including ?medically necessary, voluntary family-planning services.? The policy is under
review, and no changes have been made.

?We recognize the importance of providing family-planning services, which include physical
examinations, prenatal care and well-child care, among many other services,? the university said in
a statement. ?All insurance providers available to us at this time must provide medically necessary
family-planning services in their coverage plans, and those family-planning services, as defined by
the law, include contraceptive coverage.?

Employee health-insurance policies provided by Mount Carmel Health do not cover birth control,
and doctors at facilities owned by the health system do not perform sterilizations unless medically
necessary, the school said. Officials said in a statement that it is unclear how the federal
regulations will affect the health system?s policies.

'Idol' reveals its 2 finalists after shocking cut

The judges are going to have to find themselves a new favorite to promote in the ?American Idol? finale.

Joshua Ledet, who set the unofficial record for Most Standing Ovations From the Judges with his consistently big performances this season, was voted off the show on Thursday. He finished in third place, while Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez move on to compete for the title next week.

If he likes, Joshua can blame mentor Jimmy Iovine, who said that in hindsight, he wished he?d picked something that offered more of a melody than Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama" for the teenager to perform Wednesday. He also regretted his pick for Jessica, thus shattering the ?Idol? record of self-critical comments in one night. (He?ll need a remedial course of ?Idol 201: The Art of Never Admitting Mistakes? if he wants to come back next season.) And they were more than empty words -- Jimmy seemed genuinely upset with himself when the results were announced, perhaps wondering if a better pick on his part would have been a game-changer.

Joshua could also blame a backlash or overconfidence stemming from the judges? fervent support of him over the past month, though that sure hadn?t hurt him over the previous few weeks. But really, he can probably blame his growling most of all. In a final three as close as this one appears to be, any little mistake hurts, and his over-the-top crashing about the stage on his final song didn?t do much to win the tender loving care of the audience. When in doubt, he tends to shout, and ultimately, it looks like the viewers plugged up their ears instead of picking up the phones for him.

That sets up the Phillip-Jessica finale, or Dave Matthews 2.0 vs. The Oldest-Sounding Teenager in America. But the big question next week won?t just concern who?s going to win. We'll also find out whether Ford will give Phillip a car like it normally does for the two finalists, despite the fact that he?s been absent from the video shoots. Is he secretly in league with the Japanese auto companies? And what are they going to do for that Ford video shoot next week? Have Jessica sing by herself? (Remember: Phillip has a doctor's note to skip filming those!)

Joshua can also take solace in the fact that he wasn?t the worst performer to take the stage this week. That would go to a lip-synching Lisa Marie Presley, who dragged herself onto the ?Idol? stage for the first time. She was part of a gothic set that had her both looking and sounding like something undead. Somewhere up there, Elvis is probably shaking his head and wondering whether she?s studied tapes of him performing. He?s also probably thinking that if he were alive, he?d make one heck of an ?Idol? judge.

But for now, it's the viewers who have spoken, and it?ll be a former pawn-shop worker or a California teenager who gets the confetti and the million-dollar deal on Wednesday.

We?ve got some good news, and we?ve got some bad news for all you Glamberts out there: Adam Lambert?s sophomore album Trespassing is expected to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 next week! Unfortunately, Lambert?s success might be bittersweet, as his LP is only expected to sell somewhere between 70,000 and 80,000 units, making it the smallest sum to hit #1 since August 2011, when Adele?s 21 sold 76,000 in its 12th non-consecutive week at the top of the charts.

There?s also a chance 21 or Carrie Underwood?s Blown Away could walk away with sales way past 70,000, leaving Trespassing to settle for a lower spot. (Both singers? albums moved?over 100,000 copies each last week, though Mother?s Day-related sales may have boosted their numbers.)

The expected first-week sales of Trespassing are also a far cry from those of his previous album. Lambert released his debut LP?For Your Entertainment?in 2009 during the busy Thanksgiving shopping week. The disc debuted at #3 with 198,000 copies sold, and was denied the top spot by releases from?Susan Boyle?and?Andrea Bocelli.

Sales numbers nonewithstanding, if Adam?s album did hit #1, it wouldn?t just be a career high for the pop star ??it would be a milestone for gay artists. According to an article in?The Village Voice,?no single-artist title credited to an out gay performer has ever hit the top spot on the charts. (The article points out that many artists whose albums have hit #1 in the past have come out of the closet in the following ?years, but they were not out when their album topped the charts.)

We?d love to see more out gay artists finding success on the charts (or more out gay artists in general), but we wouldn?t suggest you pick up Adam?s album because you want to help the gay rights movement ??pick it up because it?s actually quite good.

The speech in Ohio, an economically battered state that will help decide the November presidential election, continued the effort by President Barack Obama's campaign to portray Romney as more in tune with rich people like himself.

Obama's campaign and an independent group that supports the president have begun airing ads in several states, including Ohio, that highlight the failure of a Missouri-based steel company that was bought by Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney helped get off the ground. GST Steel later went bankrupt in 2001, costing 750 people their jobs. Romney was no longer with Bain at the time of GST's collapse.

"Nobody knows better than the people in the (Mahoning River) valley the consequences of that kind of philosophy. You have been through hell and back," Biden said.

After Romney's company bought the Missouri steel company, its debt increased from $13 million to $533 million, Biden said. "When you get that kind of debt and things turn bad, you're dead, you're done," he said.

Biden said the company wound up in bankruptcy court, leaving employees without health care or pensions. Thirty top executives came away with $9 million and Romney and his partners came out with $12 million, Biden said.

In a response to the vice president, Bain Capital said it had tried to make GST prosperous amid a difficult steel industry environment.

"Bain Capital undertook an ambitious plan in 1993 to turnaround GST Steel, a struggling manufacturer of specialty steel products that was slated for closure if no investor could be found," the company said in a statement.

"We invested more than $100 million and many thousands of hours into this turnaround, upgrading its facilities in an attempt to make the company competitive. This was unfortunately at a time when the steel industry came under enormous pressure, and nearly half of all U.S. steel companies went into bankruptcy."

Romney's campaign said he has a net job creation record both as a businessman and from his term as Massachusetts governor. It countered the attack on Bain Capital by citing Solyndra, a California-based solar energy company that collapsed despite receiving more than $500 million in Obama administration loans.

"President Obama has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on unsuccessful policies that have not created jobs, burdened future generations with massive debt and resulted in failed investments like Solyndra," said Romney spokeswoman Sarah Pompei.

Biden's speech came a day after Romney portrayed Obama as an agent of reckless spending who is leading the country toward a threatening debt crisis. And it comes two days after the Obama campaign signaled it would make Romney's tenure at Bain Capital an issue in a campaign that both sides are trying to keep focused on the economy and jobs.

?The banks and the government have colluded to financially enslave the people of Canada,? she says.

Grant lays out a brief history of the Canadian banking system, referencing obscure historical figures such as former Vancouver mayor Gerald McGeer and explaining that the Bank of Canada held primary control over government lending until the 1970s.

Starting then, she says, governments began borrowing from private banks instead at considerably higher interest rates than those available through the central bank.

The result, Grant argues, is a rapidly increasing national debt.

The pint-sized pundit is quick to offer a solution.

?If the Canadian government needs money, they can borrow it directly from the Bank of Canada,? she says. ? ... Canadians would again prosper with real money as the foundation of our economic structure.?

Her arguments have been championed in more orthodox financial circles.

Last June, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives published a plea from retired finance professor George Crowell, who now works on behalf of the Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform.

Crowell echoes all of Grant?s assertions, arguing borrowing from the Bank of Canada would shore up depleted government resources and usher in an era of prosperity for Canada.

?Such a change in monetary policy, combined with crucial changes in tax policy, would make available tens of billions of dollars that are urgently needed to rebuild our public infrastructure, protect our environment, and strengthen Medicare and other social programs so vital in meeting human needs,? Crowell said.

In the interest of learning everything I can about fiction, I?ve been diligently copying down rules and proclamations that my classmates and my professor, the esteemed Sam Ligon, have handed down during class, and that is what I plan to teach my SAC students.
